Iran Building Missile Site in Venezuela

The Washington Times relayed an article in Die Welt (in German) about suspicious construction activity on the Paraguaná Peninsula, which is on the coast of Venezuela about 75 miles from Colombia.

When completed, it will be equipped with the following missiles: Shahab 3s (1300-1500 km range), Scud-Bs (285-330 km) and Scud-Cs (300, 500 and 700 km). Because of international sanctions, Russia cannot sell the S-300PMU-1 air defense system directly to Iran, but there is no restriction on selling the system to Venezuela. It is believed that neither Venezuela or Iran have nuclear weapons yet, but are still working on that project, and Iran is trying to develop longer-range missiles (2000 km and up) to hit targets in the United States.
