East Coast Braces for Hurricane Irene
Map courtesy of Drudge Report
FOX News reports that Irene has become a Category 3 hurricane that injured 8 people in Florida and killed 3 in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Meanwhile, North Carolina and 6 other states have declared a state of emergency, and people in the expected path of the storm are either planning to evacuate coastal areas or stock up on food, water, and other necessary items. Expect delays in traveling by air to places such as North Carolina, New York, Boston, or New Jersey, as many flights have been cancelled. The Navy has ordered ships based in the Hampton Roads area to leave port and sail out of the path of the hurricane. The storm has also forced a postponement of the dedication ceremony for the recently-completed Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial in Washington, DC.
