FOX News reports that rebel forces are encountering stiff resistance from die-hard Gaddafi supporters in his hometown, Sirte. Block-by-block fighting has proceeded slowly because of a constant barrage of gunfire, rockets, and mortars. Civilians who have been able to flee from the city report there is no electricity, and that supplies of food and medicine are running low. The fact that the rebels suffered a humiliating defeat Friday when Gaddafi loyalists foiled their effort to take Bani Walid, 150 miles (250 kilometers) east of Sirte adds a note of urgency to this battle.
