Frank Calloway of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, who spent half his life in mental institutions, creates vibrant drawings using the simplest of means: crayons, ball-point and felt-tipped pens on long rolls of butcher paper. There are few records of his life before he was admitted to the hospital for schizophrenia in 1952. It wasn't until the 1980s that he took an art class and discovered that he had artistic talent.
