Mental Floss has an article about the 50th anniversary observance of the Battle of Gettysburg in 1913, where over 50,000 Civil War veterans showed up, and President Woodrow Wilson gave a speech on the 4th of July. Extraordinary feats of logistics has to be executed to bring them in by the trainload and provide for their needs, but organizers of this reunion rose to the occasion.
